Spotlight Spice: Worcestershire Powder

Worcestershire…powder? You heard that right! Our Worcestershire Powder is the dried version of the classic English condiment – Worcestershire sauce. This powdered version captures the complexities of its liquid sibling wonderfully – it’s a great balance of tangy, salty, and sweet. It’s great for boosting the flavor of a wide variety of dishes.

We like to use Worcestershire Powder in our homemade spice rubs and blends. It seasons beef particularly nicely and doesn’t run off like the liquid form. Try sprinkling a bit on roasts and steaks and mixing it into your hamburger before making the patties and heading to the grill.  It’s also a nice addition to soups, stews, and sauces for a pop of punchy, savory flavor.

And don’t shy away from trying Worcestershire Powder in other recipes. It’s awesome sprinkled on pastas, in casseroles, and even whipped into mashed potatoes (add a little Parmesan too!). The AllSpice recipe library is full of great Worcestershirey recipes ranging from snack mixes to cocktails to casseroles (and darn near everything between).

Our Worcestershire Powder is vegan and contains salt, sugar, tomato powder, vinegar, tamarind, spices, natural flavor, citric acid, garlic, and onion - no anchovies, which are common in liquid Worcestershire Sauce. The powder doesn’t need to go in the refrigerator; however, we do recommend keeping it in a cool, dry location away from humidity (like most other spices) - otherwise it will start to clump/cake. If that happens, just crush it back up (a mortar and pestle work – but so does a sandwich bag and your palm) and you’re back in business.
