Spotlight Spice: Salsa Verde Seasoning

Salsa Verde Seasoning

This week’s Spotlight Spice is a fiesta of flavor and is perfect for your Mexican our Southwestern dishes! It’s our Salsa Verde Seasoning.

Traditional salsa verde owes its bright green color and pleasant tartness to the tomatillo. Like tomatoes, tomatillos are a fruit, but have a slightly less sweet and a more acidic taste than a standard ripe tomato. The salsa’s pleasant, medium heat comes from green chiles, which are balanced nicely with salt, onion, garlic, and other herbs and spices.

Our Salsa Verde Seasoning is perfect for infusing your favorite dishes with Southwestern flair. Try adding a teaspoon or two to your slow-cooker chicken or pork roast to give it a deliciously pungent and spicy flavor or create a simple dressing or seafood marinade by combining the seasoning with an extra virgin olive oil.

We also like to use our Salsa Verde Seasoning as condiment by sprinkling a little on sliced garden tomatoes, over a side of cottage cheese, or inside a simple quesadilla to punch up the flavor. Mix it into a container of sour cream for a zesty salsa verde dip perfect for corn chips or fresh veggies.
